Description:
Called to Bear Witness: The Journey toward GLBT Authenticity
Led by the Rev. Dr. Ruthanna B. HookeBeing one’s authentic self means being genuine, truthful, trustworthy, and true to oneself. The search for authenticity is a challenging one for all people, but particularly for GLBT people, as we strive to be our true selves in a world that does not always welcome that truth. For GLBT Christians, it is painful that the church likewise does not always embrace the fullness of who we are. God, however, desires and calls us to be our authentic selves. During this retreat we will explore three ways that God supports our journey toward authenticity: God the Creator loves us into being and continues to love us unconditionally; God the Son/Word redeems us and calls us to bear witness to who we truly are; and God the Holy Spirit sustains, comforts, encourages and guides us as we embrace this calling. The retreat will create time for worship, discussion, Bible study, silence, and community as we reflect on these themes. All GLBT persons and their friends and allies are welcome at this retreat.
