Unity Mississippi invites you to join us for an hour of reflection and remembrance. December 1, 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day — one of the most recognised international health days and a key opportunity to raise further awareness in our communities and across the world about the state of the pandemic and critical next steps that must be taken to halt its spread.
It is estimated that Mississippi has 4,232 living with HIV and 3,168 living with AIDS. Obviously, those numbers are much higher because of unreported and undiagnosed cases. It dramatically impacts those living in poverty. As the poorest states in the US, Mississippians should be reminded of this disease and its impact on our neighbors.
The evening will be used to reflect upon HIV/AIDS here & abroad with a candlelight vigil to remember those who have been lost to AIDS and are living with HIV/AIDS.
Bring a candle. Bring a friend. Share memories of those harmed by this disease.
HIV/AIDS impacts all humans!
To make this event effective, help us get the message out as widely as possible and start planning to attend. How you can help:
- Invite your friends to join the event on Facebook and encourage them to RSVP.
- Start a text chain this Saturday encouraging your friends to join us on Monday evening. The text should include what it is, where it is, and when it is. Tell them to pass it on to 10 people.
- Send an email to your friends asking them to participate.
