Garrison Starr and Eric Himan Headline OUToberfest
Unity Mississippi is excited to announce the headlining acts for OUToberfest's main event on October 14, 2006. Mississippi-native Garrison Starr and OUToberfest 2005 favorite Eric Himan will bring their unique rock/folk sounds to the stage of Hal & Mal's. Stay tuned for the full lineup!
Garrison Starr
Garrison Starr’s greatest gift is her gorgeous, full, rough, passionate voice that can be alternately pensive, intimate, hurt, consoling, libidinous or scornful — sometimes during the same verse. Her raw phrasing would take Sarah McLachlan’s and Neko Case’s lunch money. (MSNBC)

Eric Himan
If you missed Eric Himan at OUToberfest 2005 or as he passed through with Levi Kreis on PlanetOut's KnockOUT Tour, you're in luck! Eric will be co-headlining OUToberfest 2006 this year and showcasing his new album (released in September). Watch out for the new Genre and Out magazines which will feature more on Eric Himan in the next three months.

Kitty for Adoption in JXN
Deuce needs your help! Deuce the Kitten is a recent rescue by the folks at the JFP...he's about 10 weeks old, has an excellent disposition, is very playful and extremely sweet. He's had his first round of tests and shots at the vet -- he's in good health and perfect spirits. His only complaint is that he doesn't like to be locked in the bathroom to sleep at night, which is his current fate because his foster parents already have three grown, very territorial cats.
Want to give him a good home? You can write Todd Stauffer at [todd at jacksonfreepress dot com] or call 601.362.6121 x3 to set an appointment to stop in at the JFP office to meet Deuce. Todd asks that you promise to fix Deuce when he's old enough (we've got enough strays running around as it) and that you promise never to declaw.
***What does a kitty have to do with LGBT issues? Well, pets are a huge part of many LGBTs lives or have been. We recognize that and also recognize the LGBT community has always been heavily supportive of organizations like CARA and MARL. We will begin featuring pets in need in future newsletters based on this knowledge. We hope to give a second chance to some incredible animals by spreading the word. We encourage you to support your local shelters with financial or food donations if you are unable to rescue.
