Unity Mississippi responds to Operation Save America
Unity Mississippi, a Mississippi-based, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organization, is outraged at the destruction and burning of a rainbow flag by members of Operation Save America on Tuesday, July 18, 2006. This flag represents the diversity of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities and the community at-large that supports freedom and celebrates diversity. The burning of the flag and Operation Save America’s bigoted position on gay and lesbian individuals and families, as well as our allies, is hateful and attempts to invoke terror and fear within Mississippi’s communities.
Transsexual Emegency Shelter Opening!
TES, a work in progress shelter for the transgendered person, will be opening in Aug. 2006 in Macon, MS. It is their goal to provide support and a safe place for the Transgendered community. They will be seeking Non-Profit status as well as charitable status.

Mississippi-native Lance Bass: I'm Gay
Lance Bass, the former 'N Sync heartthrob, reveals that he is gay, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.
"I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything," says Bass, referring to bandmates Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake.
"I didn’t know: Could that be the end of ’N Sync? So I had that weight on me of like, ‘Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it's bad.' So I just never did," he says speaking about his sexual orientation for the first time with PEOPLE.
Now, after years of keeping his personal life private, the Mississippi-bred, Southern Baptist-reared Bass, 27, is publicly revealing what he first shared with his friends, then his shocked family.
Mississippi Rainbow Alliance
A small, LGBT group is forming on the coast and seeking more interested members. The group is primarily a social group but is hoping to better organize the community and be a resource to the community.
They meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at the Augusta House in Biloxi, Mississippi.
