Unity Mississippi Highway Clean-up
Join Unity Mississippi for our quarterly highway clean-up this weekend June 17, 2006 at 8AM. It's a great way to volunteer and give back to the community.
Clean-up will begin at 8am on Highway 18 between Jackson and Raymond. It should take no more than three hours total to complete the clean-up. If you'd like more details or to volunteer, please email info@unityms.org by Frday, June 16, 2006 at 5pm.
Mississippi Senators Vote Anti-Gay
The Senate voted 49 to 48 Wednesday, June 7, 2006, to defeat the Federal Marriage Amendment, a measure that would have denied marriage to same-sex couples and seriously threatened civil unions and domestic partnerships. Seven Republicans joined 41 Democrats in voting down the measure, which opponents said was a politically motivated distraction from real challenges facing the country.
Needless to say, Trent Lott and Thad Cochran were among the Republican senators that voted for the Federal Marriage Amendment. By supporting such an amendment, they have attempted to write discrimination into our Constitution which guarantees our liberties.
If you feel inclined, please contact your representative to let them know how you feel about their support of this amendment.

Mississippi Public Broadcasting is scheduled to air “The Power of Harmony”
Mississippi Public Broadcasting is scheduled to air “The Power of Harmony”, a documentary by Ginny Martin which takes a look at The Turtle Creek Chorale, a gay men’s chorus in Dallas, Texas. The show will be aired in Jackson on WMPN Channel 29 (Time Warner 7) on Saturday, June 17 at 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM and on Friday, June 23 at 2:00 PM.
The Power of Harmony, through the personal experiences of a gay men’s chorus, takes an intimate look at controversial issues of the day: coming out and gay marriage, religious views on homosexuality, and gay adoption.
The Turtle Creek Chorale is a gay organization that refuses to live on the fringes. They have survived, indeed thrived, for over 25 years, right in the heart of the Bible belt: Dallas, Texas. They are first class musicians. They are irreverent, outrageous, angry, forgiving, and compassionate. They are individuals battling together in an intolerant world. Through music, they have transformed the painful experiences of death and dying from AIDS, and rejection from their own families and churches, into a powerful voice for compassion and equality.
