Ala. Voters Endorse Ban on Gay Marriage
With 81% support on a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and defining marriage as between a man and a woman, our neighbors in Alabama are probably dealing with the same pain and dismay most of our community felt after Mississippi passed its constitutional amendment. Of course, it was no surprise that Alabama would pass the amendment.
Still, Equality Alabama and the organized, LGBT community in AL put up a strong fight including awareness campaigns and a strong media presence focused on using personal stories and experience to reach out to allies.
Unfortunately, in the Bible Belt, compassion, humanity, and equality are not quite the norm when our community is perceived by the majority. The board of Unity Mississippi applauds Alabama's work to fight their amendment and especially applaud Howard Bayless (of Equality Alabama) for pushing so hard to get the community and its allies involved.

With a tagline like "Because real gay and lesbian news is too damn depressing" be prepared to laugh at some great satire. Think of FGN as the Onion for the LGBT community.
